We offer a range of support for anyone in Wiltshire who is struggling and seeking mental health support, including a confidential phone line, a Salisbury drop-in and a counselling service.

Riverside Sanctuary

Alabaré Riverside Sanctuary is our confidential service aimed at anyone in Wiltshire seeking mental health support or struggling to manage their mental wellbeing. Our specialist team of Wellbeing Practitioners, Peer Support Workers and Counsellors can provide you with guidance and support, including coping strategies and help you get further support if needed.

To make an appointment please telephone our Riverside Sanctuary team. You are also welcome to call if you are a friend, family member or a professional supporting someone who is struggling.

Our telephone lines are open 9 am – 11 pm seven days a week with drop-in sessions available (please ring to arrange).

All our support is tailored to individual needs, and we try to link in with other networks, such as friends, family or other professionals.  Our team will offer a safe space to discuss how you are feeling, what’s happening and work to find the best way forward. We can also help provide access community resources and links to any extra support.

As part of Access Community Mental Health, we work in close partnership with Rethink Mental Illness. If you phone the number below during the daytime, you may speak to a staff member from Rethink, who will continue to offer mental health support to you if you are based in the north of the county. 16 years or over

Willing and able to work with us safely

Registered with a GP within Wiltshire

Anyone seeking mental health support cannot be:

  • at risk of immediate harm
  • in need of immediate medical treatment
  • unable to work collaboratively with us safely
  • intoxicated or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

If a level of mental health support is needed higher than we can provide, please contact the local NHS Mental Health team or dial 111.

If there is immediate danger or risk of harm, please call 999.

A place of calm

Alongside our phone line, we also offer out-of-hours community mental health support. A ‘place of calm’ at Riverside Sanctuary in Salisbury provides a safe, non-judgmental space to unwind, working through mental health difficulties and life’s challenges. Anyone wishing to attend can come along to relax, talk through difficulties or engage in free activities.

Hope House Chippenham

Hope House

Our service also includes Hope House in Chippenham, a short-term residential service for people experiencing mental health crises. It is a ‘Peer Respite’ house, supporting people in crisis as they build a sense of meaning and purpose beyond their challenges.

We support our guests in redefining their crisis as an opportunity for learning, growth, and change. Our Hope House team have a specialism for those presenting with signs or symptoms of depression, suicidal thoughts and low mood. Staff can support people in a comfortable home environment, 24 hours a day.

We offer mental health support collaboratively alongside NHS teams to help engage guests with their clinical treatment plans. Our senior peers work with our guest to instil a sense of meaning and hope for the future, working with them to put together advanced decisions or crisis safety plans. Our staff are highly trained to build therapeutic relationships and support guests in emotional distress. We have a wide variety of activities also on offer.

Eligibility and referrals

The pathway into Hope House is managed by referral from the local Mental Health Intensive Support Team. To allow for a timely response to a crisis, the referral process is a simple, collaborative process that fully includes the person being referred.

Andover Counselling Service

This is a confidential counselling service providing one-to-one counselling for young people aged 11 (secondary school) – 25 years old. We are based in Sarum House in Winchester Street, Andover and support all schools and colleges in the Test Valley area. Referrals for over 18s can be for anyone in Hampshire and referral can be on behalf of someone else or you may self-refer. It is a free service aimed at helping our Young People.

Access Counselling Service

We support Wiltshire residents aged 16 years and over with counselling rooms in Salisbury and Devizes, providing a safe and confidential service 6 days a week. Ours is a humanistic service offering eight 50-minute weekly sessions online or face to face with a qualified or student counsellor for those who will benefit from counselling, but are unable to access chargeable mental health services.
