storm dennis alabare homeless charity help donate support rough sleepers

The recent stormy conditions and the continued torrential rain over the last few months has been threatening the lives of anyone sleeping rough.

Homelessness is an emergency whatever the weather but in these conditions it can be life threatening. More than one homeless person dies every day in the UK* and we urgently need your help to change this tragedy.

Naomi Webb, Alabaré Homeless Service Manager, says;

“Rain is one of the most hazardous conditions for the rough sleepers we support, their possessions get drenched and they are unable to keep themselves warm and dry which can cause a number of health issues.

Alabaré are here to provide a place of warmth and safety to rough sleepers in need. This weekend we will be working closely with local authorities to identify and support those who are at severe risk.

Our services are there to provide hot meals and importantly in this weather; clean clothes, washing and laundry facilities. We also have emergency accommodation and provide advice and support to rough sleepers to help them access long term accommodation.”

Rough sleeper Mark came to Alabaré during Storm Ciara and we provided him with emergency accommodation;

“Having a bed in here is life-saver, it is so wet and cold out there. Having a bed stops me being freezing cold and wet. I won’t be moved on here [at Alabaré] and I won’t be alone.”

The harsh reality is that right now there are hundreds of rough sleepers like Mark who are cold, hungry and in desperate need of help.

Your donation of £20 can welcome a rough sleeper out of the cold, provide them with clean clothing, a hot meal, a warm bed for the night as well as providing the advice and support they need to get permanent accommodation.

To rough sleepers in need, your kindness will be a lifeline.
