In the summer of 2019, we began planning and developing a brand-new training kitchen and café for the Old Sarum Garden Centre!

Plans were to develop an innovative design, upcycling two shipping containers which would enable us to provide training for clients including both retail and catering qualifications. This fantastic opportunity will allow our clients with Learning Disabilities to develop a range of practical skills including increasing their confidence and making them feel more at ease in a working environment. It will also be a wonderful way of making the garden centre an even more attractive place to visit, allowing customers, or clients and their friends and families a dedicated space to enjoy some delicious refreshments and a place to relax.

Two years on and we could not have envisaged the difficulties we have all faced over the last 18 months. So, while plans had to be placed on hold because of temporary site closures, manufacturing delays, social distancing restrictions and more everyone was super excited when this week once again the site became a hive of activity as we took delivery of the new cabins, which also involved some very heavy machinery.

We have to thank our funders and the local community who have supported us so far, these include Nationwide, Baily Thomas, SCORE, Southern Wiltshire Area Board and Laverstock and Ford Parish Council. We also secured a number of pledges from a Community Crowdfunding Campaign which was run, and we will be contacting all parties soon to invite them along once restrictions allow.

For everyone, this is a fantastic venture, and we look forward to developing this more in the weeks, months and years ahead. Please keep in touch with our social media pages and the Facebook page for Old Sarum Garden Centre which will be covering developments.
