New Home For Our North Somerset Support

Andrew House

Eighteen years ago we opened the doors of Andrew House in Clevedon, welcoming men who were recovering from addictions.  Over those intervening years, we have gone on to support hundreds of people in their journey from rehabilitation to independent living, sharing the emotional joys and the set-backs along the way, and always grateful to be able to help so many achieve the goals they set themselves.

At the end of March, we will be handing Andrew House back to our partners, Changing Lives, and moving to our new property just down the road in Weston Super Mare.  Our new Alabaré North Somerset service will still support people overcoming many of the same challenges as we always have, but with scope to expand to help others at different stages of their recoveries.

Our Chief Executive, Andrew Lord said;

“We can look back with happiness over the last eighteen years at the people we have helped and who have lived with us in Clevedon. We wish Changing Lives the very best for the future and are looking forward to seeing them develop their vision."

“We are excited to open our home in Weston Super Mare and hope to be able to open a second home as soon as possible.  There are many people on their own journey to recovery and we are glad to be there to support them."

David Tomlinson, Chair of Trustees of Changing Lives said;

“The work of Alabaré at Andrew House in Clevedon over many years has left a lasting positive mark on the town.  Through their professionalism and commitment to the residents they supported, they have helped many men turn their lives around and some of them are now fully integrated into the local community.  Without them, the original local vision would not have been fulfilled and Andrew House as a project would not have been possible.  We have valued the opportunity of working jointly with Alabaré and their team of dedicated staff in recent years to keep the House open and as both charities move into a new season, the legacy inherited will not be forgotten”.

Don Alexander, who is one of our Trustees at Alabaré, also reflected;

"As a Trustee of Alabare and someone who has personally benefitted from the outstanding care at Andrew House it's especially sad to reflect on the end of Alabare's relationship with a building which has been a place of refuge and renewal in Clevedon for many decades. It is, however, our hope that its valuable services will continue to the same high standard for many decades to come under the care of the Changing Lives team. Alabaré’s move to Weston Super Mare will mean that many in the area will continue to benefit from the teams’ expertise and care."
