New Alabaré Home Opens In Weston Super Mare

New Alabaré home opens in Weston super Mare

This week we are celebrating the expansion of our Learning Disability services to North Somerset with the opening of our first house in Weston-super-Mare.  Our first two residents moved in yesterday and were welcomed by our Support Worker Joe.  John our first resident (pictured with Joe above) was referred to our home following a family breakdown.

Our home in Weston provides the first 3 Alabaré bedspaces for adults with Learning Disabilities or Learning Difficulties in the region.  By the spring, we plan to have 20 places available in North Somerset and will be supporting residents for up to 18 months each.  Our team will be working with each person individually to identify their support needs and goals, helping them to maximise their income and find suitable work or training opportunities.  We will also be helping each person to gain the skills they need to successfully manage their own independent accommodation.

Ruth Telford, our Learning Disabilities Service Manager said “We are thrilled to open our first home in Weston-super-Mare.  Being able to bring the expertise we have gained over the last 19 years in Wiltshire to help people in North Somerset is fantastic, and we believe we can support our residents to make very positive steps towards in their lives.”

Alabaré’s North Somerset Supported Housing service (also known as INVEST) has been made possible thanks to funding from North Somerset Supporting People.  Referrals can be made through North Somerset Supporting People Gateway.
