John Penrose MP Visits Our Weston-super-Mare Home

Today we were delighted to welcome John Penrose MP for Weston-super-Mare to our North Somerset Supported Housing home only a week after the Government announced the suspension of the Local Housing Allowance cap proposal which could otherwise have spelt the end to this project.

Homes not StreetsThe visit from John Penrose today is an excellent next step in our Homes not Streets campaign, where we are raising awareness for the need for a sustainable future for Supported Housing.  It is also confirmation that local MPs are committed to listening to the needs of Supported Housing residents.

John Penrose was shown around our home today and learnt about the vital work Alabaré does.

John Penrose said:

"Alabaré do great work in Weston and across the South West, and I was delighted to meet some of the people they're helping get back on their feet to live independent and self-supporting lives in and around Weston."

Andrew Lord, our Chief Executive said:

“John Penrose’s visit today is of great importance to us.  It launches the next phase of our campaign which will focus on how we protect vulnerable people in Supported Housing and ensure that this housing safety net is there for everyone for years to come.  We are delighted that John is enthusiastic about talking to our staff and residents today and willing to take an active role in this conversation about sustainable funding.  We look forward to working together with John and other supportive MPs, to bring this most vital issue to the fore.”
