Happy Birthday Bill!

Bill is a former Royal Navy veteran whose service career saw him involved in the D-Day landings as well as serving in the Special Forces and being involved in tours right across the globe.

He was first referred to Alabaré by SSAFA based in France, as he wanted to return to the UK to be based closer to his family. At the time of his referral we had no vacancies but we were able to source accommodation with a specialist housing provider for the elderly. Through our RNRM outreach services, were not only able to work in finding Bill somewhere more permanent to live but also register Bill with medical services, organise and pick up his medication and take and support him to hospital appointments. We have also been able to help Bill keep in touch with his two daughters who both live abroad.

Unfortunately, the lockdown due to the Covid-19 outbreak Bill’s move to somewhere more permanent has been put on hold. We have been continuing to support Bill whilst adhering to social distancing guidelines, supplying him with food essentials and providing reassurance during these difficult times.

Bill celebrated his 96th birthday on Thursday 30th April so we presented him with a cake and very special quilt, created for him by Lt. Col Neil Stace aka 'The Sewing Soldier'.

Everyone at Alabaré would like to wish Bill a very happy birthday!
