Don's Story: A Volunteering Triumph!
Don Alexander is from Bristol and lived in the city with his wife and two teenage children live. He speaks Arabic and has worked across the world in both Lebanon Sudan. His previous employment was as an Operations Manager for Aspire in Bristol, where he experienced the challenges and the joys of exploring social enterprise as a way to help men and women struggling to get back into employment. He is a firm believer that work is key to an individual's self-esteem.
Don became a resident of Andrew House, in Clevedon, which provides support for up to 11 men recovering from substance misuse. During his time at Andrew House, Don saw a notice asking for clients to consider becoming Trustees.
I jumped at the chance because I had reached the stage where I needed to feel that I would again be able to return to working life.
Don was successful in his application to become an Alabaré Trustee and has greatly contributed to Alabaré's goal of enabelling everyone in society to lead a fulfilling life.
The senior management of Alabare were extremely kind to me and this role has boosted my self-esteem.
Don has recently started on an MBA programme with the University of Roehampton and is extremely excited about the future!
