The first, and main stage of building at OurEnterprise Veterans Campus (previously Our Wilton Veterans Village), the ground-breaking development for Armed Forces Veterans being built on the former Land Command HQ in Wilton near Salisbury, is nearing completion.
We are proud to be working with developers OurEnterprise and their partners Wilton Community Land Trust and Redrow Homes on the scheme which broke ground in early 2017. Thanks to funding allocated from the Chancellor from the Armed Forces LIBOR Fund, the 44 unit Veterans campus will be the UKs first purpose built community for vulnerable Veterans, helping them get back on their feet after suffering difficulties in their civilian lives. The campus will eventually include an Enterprise Hub,training facilities and a community café.
Once complete, the initiative will support over 300 veterans in ten years, each of whom will be recovering from challenges such as mental ill-health, debt issues, substance addiction and relationship breakdown. The centre will become a new base for our Wiltshire Homes for Veterans team, and we will be on site offering support to vulnerable Veterans from all over the country who have come to live in the accommodation.
The accommodation building phase is due to complete in summer 2019, with the first Veterans due to move in soon after.
MP John Glen has supported the development since its inception. He says;
"It is particularly appropriate that this scheme, which gives a fresh start to the veterans who represent the best of British values, is being funded by fines levied on those bankers who demonstrated the worst."
"Local people have always been at the heart of the Wilton Hill development, and the community has sought to retain the military ethos at the heart of the former Army HQ."
"I am delighted that the Chancellor has recognised the potential in Wilton to pioneer a model of care that offers the very best to those who have served their country so selflessly."
