Our Alabaré Development Centres offer vocational training and meaningful day activities to vulnerable adults with a variety of needs. We have two development centres in Wiltshire:
- Barford Development Centre operates from converted farm buildings in the rural village setting of Barford St Martin, 6 miles west of Salisbury. The centre has a wood workshop, pottery barn, training kitchen, teaching room and an acre of land dedicated to horticulture.
- Old Sarum Development Centre is 2 miles north of Salisbury, and can be accessed via local buses that run from Salisbury and Amesbury. Set within four acres, the centre has large gardens set aside to horticulture, a retail shop (open to the public Mon, Tues, Thurs and Fri 9am-4pm. Currently closed due to lockdown), wood workshop and a grounds maintenance service. The centre also has a fully equipped I.T suite offering courses to the general public including the ECDL - European Computer driving licence.
Working towards a qualification isn’t a requirement at either centre, however both Barford and Old Sarum Development Centres are fully accredited centres delivering NOCN qualifications. These qualifications could help you gain the necessary skills you need to access employment, work experience or any other educational opportunities you may wish to pursue. We can work with you to develop an individual training plan for whichever area you would like to pursue.
You are welcome to attend as many training sessions as you like too; our days are set out so that you can fit two sessions into one day. You can visit our Development Centres for as long as want to, but if you are interested in work place or training opportunities, we're on hand to help you with that too.
You can book placements directly by calling us at the centre, or you can be referred through another agency, such as Community Mental Health teams or community teams for people with Learning Disabilities. You can pay for sessions using your personal budget, private funds or with funding from the local authority.
If you would like more information on either centre please get in touch, or download a copy of our Alabaré Development Centres information sheet.
