The Big Sleep - Tower of London

22 Oct 2021 - 23 Oct 2021

Join us and take a stand against homelessness, by bedding down for one night at the world-famous landmark, the Tower of London, in a single act of compassion to help save lives.

The event promises to be a bone-chilling, powerful and yet humbling experience. You will sleep rough, in the cold, on the hard-cobbled walkway in front of the Traitor’s Gate, between the Thames and the Tower, with a view of Tower Bridge and HMS Belfast (not for the faint-hearted!). This experience will give you a taste of what it is like to bed down like a homeless person, but just for one night, knowing that in the morning you can return to your warm home and comfortable bed.

On the night, you will hear how your sponsorship money will have a positive impact on homeless and vulnerable veterans, through enabling us to support homeless veterans off the street, provide supported accommodation and create the skills, confidence, and opportunity to live fulfilling lives. You will be educated and impressed by the history of the Tower of London and have the opportunity to meet with the legendary Yeoman Warders, or Beefeaters as they are sometimes known. A limited number of people will be given the opportunity to witness the historic Ceremony of the Keys (more details to follow!), and you will all hear a bedtime story by historian and TV presenter Dan Snow before you bed down and try to get a night’s rest.

Participants pledge to raise £200 per person.

An event pack containing a full kit list, sponsorship form and on-the-night information will be sent to participants. Please note that your £10 ticket cost includes the use of a bivvy bag, refreshments throughout the night, and breakfast in the morning.

Alabaré will be making a financial donation from the profit of this event to a homeless charity working in the Tower Hamlets area.

976 homeless people died across the four nations last year. By taking part in The Big Sleep and fundraising for Alabaré, you will be making a difference to the lives of homeless people in Hampshire and other areas.

Alabaré's Homes, Drop-In Centres and training facilities support homeless and vulnerable people. Alabaré helps them transform their lives, providing accommodation and helping them gain the skills, confidence and opportunities to live a fulfilled life. Each year we enable around 2,000 people to come off the streets but our work is challenging and the challenge is getting bigger, with the number of rough sleepers increasing.

Let's end homelessness!
