John and Alicia's story

30 years ago, we were challenged by God, the Christian Community and the growing levels of homelessness in Salisbury, to set up Alabaré, and in doing so offer a safe home and support. These were challenging but exciting times.  Having never done this before, we stepped out in faith and launched our first appeal to raise £40,000 to buy our first property – to be known as Barnabas House. Many doubted we could do it but through prayer and the generosity of you and the community in Salisbury, we achieved it.

The need today...

We want to make sure that all our clients we serve have the best support, facilities and opportunities available to them, not just today but in the years to come as well.  This is why we find ourselves once more challenged to raise another £40,000.  This time, however, we know this can be done so for every donation of £200 or more, we have the opportunity to double that donation.*

These vital funds will help Alabaré provide specialist support at homes such as Alabaré Place where they are helping those who have been living in crisis to move off the street, towards a fulfilled life. Equally, it will help us provide mental health and wellbeing support for all our clients.  One of the most evident consequences of the pandemic has been the impact on our mental health, and even more so for those who are already managing complex problems in their lives.

If together we can raise £40,000, it will help Alabaré achieve so much more, and help many more people lead a fulfilling life.

* we have up to £10,000 of match funding available to us - and we will regularly add match funding that we have been awarded to this page to double all donations made of £200 and up to the total of £10,000.

Emily's story

Emily's story

Emily is one of the thousands of people that you have made it possible for us to support at Alabaré.  She tell us her story....

I was one of the thousands Alabaré have helped, and now I am here to help others.

I explored the boundaries as a young person. My father called it my ‘wandering years’. When I was about 16 I went slightly off the rails, and it came to a point where my parents and I couldn’t live together. I moved into supported housing in Salisbury which at first I thought was a dream…I was 16 and I had a boyfriend.  But then I fell pregnant....

30 years, 30 voices

30 Years, 30 Voices is a celebration of our work since Alabaré was founded in 1991. As part of our celebratory year, we have drawn together 30 voices that are a celebration of lives that we have touched and an illustration of the work that we have done. Each story is shared by someone who has experienced a personal journey with Alabaré.
