Alabaré Alabaré - enabling a fulfilling life

Press Release

Welfare Box Appeal a huge success so far

Alabaré wants to say thank you for the overwhelming response to its Welfare Box Appeal.

The Welfare Box Appeal was launched last month as a way of enabling people to directly help the homeless.  People are asked to donate a small box or carrier bag containing toiletries such as tissues, soap and deodorant as well as other things for keeping warm like gloves and socks.

The boxes and bags are then passed to one of Alabaré’s three Drop In Centres (in Salisbury, Devizes and Trowbridge) where they are distributed amongst the homeless and vulnerable people who visit them.

Since its launch in November, Alabaré’s has been inundated with generous donations and would like to say thank you to each and every person who has given their support so far.

The Welfare Box Appeal isn’t something that will run just over the Christmas period, it is an ongoing appeal that will support the work of our Drop In Centres throughout the year.

The Wiltshire Drop In Centres offer a warm and welcoming safe daytime shelter for vulnerable adults who are homeless, facing homelessness and living in unsuitable accommodation.  They provide hot meals and drinks, showers, laundry facilities and a clothing exchange service.  They also offer support and advice on housing and employment.

Manager of the three centres, Doreen Knight, said “I am delighted at the response we’ve had to the Welfare Box Appeal so far.  People have been both generous and thoughtful when putting these packs together.”

She added “The packs that we have handed out already have been really gratefully received; toiletries are just as important to homeless people as they are to you or me.  Personal hygiene is something most of us take for granted and plays a big part in boosting self esteem and confidence.”

If you would like to support Alabaré’s Welfare Box Appeal you can put your own pack together and drop it off at Alabaré’s Salisbury office at 33 Brown Street or at your nearest Drop In Centre (addresses supplied below).
