Press Release
Alabaré getting young people v involved
Alabaré Christian Care Centres is helping to get more young people in Hampshire involved in volunteering.
Alabaré has formed a consortium with two other charities - Step by Step and Reading Single Homeless Project - to encourage more young people to volunteer their services. They will be doing this via a new project called “vinvolved – the National Youth Volunteering Programme”.
Alabaré, Step by Step and Reading Single Homeless Project will work together to get more young people involved in volunteering opportunities in Hampshire and help them understand the benefits of volunteering.
The programme will involve short-term, long-term and one-off volunteering opportunities. It will also include a special HELP (Homelessness Education Liaison Project) Play, which is a short play that will be performed by young people for young people.
The consortium and the vinvolved programme have been made possible thanks to support from an independent charity called V, which champions youth volunteering in England. V’s aim is to create a culture where young people want to volunteer and where organisations actively support them in doing so.
Alabaré Operational Manager Janet Herring said “We are delighted to be working alongside Step by Step and Reading Single Homeless Project on this vinvolved programme, and we are so grateful for the support we’ve received from V.”
She added “vinvolved is a wonderful programme and will really show what young people are capable of. In a time when we see so much negative press about young people, what better time to encourage and celebrate the good work that is being carried out by some.”
Any young people in Hampshire who would like to find out more about volunteering opportunities, or if you run a group that you think could get involved in the vinvolved programme then call Dave Millward on 01234 369694.
