Whilst growing up Jacob experienced severe abuse from his father. At the age of 18, unable to cope with the abuse anymore, he left home. He found himself homeless with nowhere to turn. His only option was to sleep rough.
For 10 years Jacob slept on the streets, developing a number of health conditions including a blood disorder. At the age of 28 he came to know Alabaré through using our Drop In Centre where he could grab a shower, hot meals and use our laundry facilities.
The staff at Alabaré supported Jacob as much as they could, listening to him and providing him with warm clothing and food. This was a start but Jacob needed stable accommodation in order to get him off the streets for good. Alabaré worked closely with the local authority to highlight Jacobs need and eventually it was agreed that he should be referred to our supported accommodation where he could be given the help he needed.
After moving into our accommodation Jacob found it hard to adapt to living life indoors, having spent so many years sleeping on the streets with no walls to confine him. It took time, but he began to settle into his new surroundings. Life for Jacob was becoming more positive and his health started to stabilise.
In mid-2016 Jacob moved into our ‘Move On’ accommodation, designed to help people live as independently as possible with regular support from our team. He continues to positively move forward with his life and enjoys helping out at our Drop In Centre's kitchen - finding purpose in helping others who are going through what he experienced. Jacob always manages to stay positive and thanks to Alabaré is looking forward to a brighter future.
