Mission: To provide supported training and paid employment to service users with learning disabilities enabling them to access other employment, work experience or educational opportunities.
SORTED! (Supported Opportunities in Recycling Training and Employment Development) is a recycling project run from our Barford Countryside Unit. It provides supported training and paid employment for ten people with a learning disability. The main aim is to help team members build self-confidence and learn new skills to help them into other employment or training. The project also promotes good environmental principles and provides a valuable community recycling service, minimising the amount of waste going to landfill. The team of recyclers collect aluminium cans, foil, ink cartridges and mobile phones from sixty-one sites in the Salisbury and the surrounding area using their purposely designed SORTED! van. The waste is then taken back to the project base to be sorted, professionally crushed and baled. It’s then sold on to the re-processor.
- In 2006 the SORTED! team collected 1364 bags of foil and 724 bags of cans, producing 4.8 tonnes of foil and 1.8 tonnes of crushed cans.
- SORTED! was the official recycler of the Larmer Tree Festival in 2006 and 2007
