Fancy a night on the tiles with Alabaré?
Homeless charity Alabaré is once again on the lookout for volunteers to take part in their annual Sleep Out events, which are being held on 26th February 2010.
A series of events are being held - so far venues are confirmed across Wiltshire, Dorset and Bristol:
Salisbury Cathedral – Salisbury, Wiltshire. The biggest event that will be held
All Saints Church – Westbury, Wiltshire. A group of supervised young people will be camping down in the porch.
Edington Priory Church – Wiltshire. This is the second time the church will be holding a sleep out, this year it is being organised by the young people that go there.
St Adhelm’s Church – Weymouth, Dorset. This will be our first event in Dorset
Pip n Jay’s Church – Bristol
Devon – venue to be confirmed
The money raised at events across Wiltshire will go towards the Wiltshire Drop In Centres in Salisbury and Trowbridge.
The Drop in centres offer a warm and welcoming safe daytime shelter for vulnerable adults who are homeless, facing homelessness or living in unsuitable accommodation. They provide hot meals and drinks, showers, laundry facilities and a clothing exchange service. They also offer support and advice on housing and employment.
The money raised at sleep outs outside of Wiltshire will go towards the Alabaré projects in those areas.
The 2009 sleep saw more than 120 people dig out their sleeping bags and take to the cold floor of Salisbury cathedral. A number of other sleep outs also took place in Bristol, Warminster and Tisbury. More than £32,000 was raised for Alabaré projects across the region.
If you would like to find out more about the 2010 sleep out at Salisbury Cathedral or any of the other venues mentioned above, or if you would like to arrange a sleep out of your own, contact Tony Richmond on 01722 344485.
