Romsey Abbey making life a little brighter at Oasis House

A supported housing project for young people will be getting a makeover with the help of Romsey Abbey.

Oasis House in Romsey, which is run by homeless charity Alabaré, has been presented with a cheque for £220 by the Abbey to go towards some much needed re-decoration and furniture. 

The house is currently undergoing some refurbishment work, being carried out by the Housing Association.  The generous donation from Romsey Abbey means that they will now be able to decorate and buy some much needed furniture.

Oasis House provides supported accommodation to young men and women aged between 16 and 25.  It can support up to five people, helping them work towards successful independent living.  Each client is assigned their own key worker who will help them draw up a support plan based on their individual needs and aspirations.  They can also signpost them to other appropriate services and agencies and provide life skills training where necessary.

Tony Richmond, Alabaré’s community and churches fundraiser, says “We are so grateful to Romsey Abbey for their generous donation and would like to thank them for their support.  Being able to re-decorate and buy some new furniture will make a real difference to Oasis House and the young people who live there, it is what makes a house a home."

Back in 2008 Romsey Abbey hosted a sponsored sleep in event, which raised funds for Alabaré’s work in the Test Valley Area.

This year Alabaré is once again holding a number of events across the region, including a sleep out in the cloisters of Salisbury Cathedral and a sleep in at the King Arthur Hall in Andover.  They are taking place overnight on Friday 26th February.

Anyone from the Romsey area wishing to take part in one of these events would be more than welcome and the money raised can be specifically allocated to Oasis House in Romsey.
