Get a taste for life as a volunteer in Devizes
28th August 2007
Are you after a new challenge to sink your teeth into? Look no further than the Devizes Food Bank.
From next month the Devizes Food Bank will be operating from Alabaré’s Young Person Service Office at the Cromwell Rooms in Station Road. The Food Bank will provide Emergency Boxes containing enough food for up to three days for people in crisis in the Devizes area.
Currently the Food Bank is run by a single person, Rosa-Diane Lancaster, but more people are needed to help keep it up and running. A Volunteer Launch Day is being held on 4th September at Sheep Street Baptist Church between 7:30pm and 9pm.
It is a chance for people to see the range volunteering opportunities that are available such as driving, food sorting, food packing, food collection and delivery, fundraising, administration, publicity and supermarket collections. Alabaré will also be at the launch giving out information on the services they can offer to homeless and vulnerable people.
The Devizes Food Bank was in need of somewhere to operate from and Alabaré was delighted to be able to help by offering them some space. It was announced back in July that the Food Bank would operate from the Alabaré Young People’s Office from September.
Manager of Alabaré’s Young Person Service, Mel Hurley, said “We are delighted to welcome Rosa and the Devizes Food Bank to our office. The service it provides is invaluable and we are pleased that we were able to help.”
If you would like any further information before the Volunteer Launch, call Harold Stephens on 01380 813914 or Chris Corey on 01380 724264.
