Press releases 2007

The Junction opens its doors to the local community

28th March 2007

On Tuesday 20th March 2007 The Junction in Andover opened their doors to the local business community.  Community Groups, Churches and Schools were also invited along to see our work and the facilities at the centre.

The day was designed to increase awareness of The Junction, part of the Test Valley Foyer, and to encourage local businesses and groups to use its facilities.  The Junctions is run by Alabaré Christian Care Centres in partnership with Test Valley Borough Council.

Visitors to the Open Day included local councillors, representatives from local business and church leaders. Despite having been open for over three years, this was the first time that some had visited the centre.  There was general surprise at both the range of services available to young people through the project and the facilities offered at The Junction.

Everyone was impressed with the meeting rooms available, which range from informal discussion rooms, ideal for 2-5 people, to flexible training rooms, ideal for up to 28.  The provision of the IT training area/Internet Café was seen as an added bonus as this room is available to hire as well.

Project Manager, Dave Millward commented, “We have talked with businesses keen to hire our facilities for training and meeting and to representatives of churches keen to forge closer links between their work and ours.”

The income received from room hire goes straight back into the centre, helping Alabaré to continue providing support services for young people.

If you are involved in a local business or group in the Andover area and would like to know more about the facilities available at The Junction and supporting Alabaré’s work there, please do contact us on 01264 369694 or email thejunction@alabare.co.uk.

Notes to Editors

Alabaré Christian Care Centres is a regional charity, providing a range of services including supported housing, floating support services, drop-in centres, information, advice and training services and a registered care home.  The charity works with the homeless, ex-offenders, young people, individuals with a learning difficulty, vulnerable women and people with drug and alcohol problems, aiming to assist them with realising their potential and becoming valued members of society.

The Junction provides a safe space and information and advice service for young people ages 13-25 living in the Test Valley area.  The service is delivered in partnership with Hampshire County Youth Service and addresses the individual needs of young people, either by providing information directly on a range of issues including housing, education, employment, health and relationships, or by signposting clients to the appropriate specialist services.
