Trowbridge Drop In Centre finds a new home

27th June 2007

The Trowbridge Drop In Centre has been saved from closure thanks to a couple of inquisitive workmen!

The Drop In, run by Alabaré Christian Care Centres, has decided to move from its original premises in Duke Street because it can no longer afford the rent.  They were having trouble finding a suitable alternative and had begun preparing for closure at the end of June.

But, with only two weeks to go a miraculous solution has been found -  as the skips were being delivered to clear out the Drop In Centre, a couple of workmen on the roof of a neighbouring building asked what they were for.  The men then popped in for a cuppa and suggested they try the landlord of the building they were working on, which was vacant and just metres from the old premises.

Within a day the Trowbridge Drop In Centre had a new home and a new landlord who offered it at a very reduced rent.  The team is moving into its new home on Friday 29th June and will operate from there straight away.

The new building offers everything they need and is even in a more prominent place on Duke Street than the previous one, making it easier to find and safer to use.  The new premises are a lot more spacious too, meaning that excess office space can be sub-let.  The Drop In Centre will work with BADAS, WUF and the local Soup Run meaning they can share costs and enabling them to work more closely together.

However, even though the Drop In Centre has secured itself a new home it is always in need of local support.  Despite the vital service it provides it does not receive any guaranteed funding and relies heavily on charitable donations to keep it up and running.

If you would like to find out more about how you can help support the centre go to www.alabare.co.uk or call 08450 78 68 08.
