A leap of faith for one South Wilts pupil
18th April 2007
One South Wilts pupil is celebrating her 16th birthday in style – by jumping out of a plane to raise money for Alabaré Christian Care Centres.
Kerry Fazal, from Andover, is to skydive from 13,000 feet with the Red Devils at Netheravon Airfield, Wilts on 29th May – just 2 weeks after turning 16.
The sponsored jump is to raise money for 2 of Alabaré’s Andover projects - The Junction and Sarum House.
The Junction gives 13-25 year olds somewhere safe to get together as well as offering information and advice on issues such as housing, education and health.
Sarum House provides 24-hour supported accommodation as well as emotional and practical guidance to 18 single vulnerable people aged between 16 and 25.
It’s not the first time Kerry’s taken on a challenge to raise money for Alabaré, she also took part in the sponsored Sleep Out at Salisbury Cathedral personally raising nearly £200 for the Mayor of Salisbury’s Appeal, the Salisbury Drop-in Centre.
Kerry said “I decided that I was going to be more adventurous this year and after doing the Sleep Out with my mum decided to do the sponsored skydive as well.”
“I wanted to raise money for Alabaré Christian Care Centres because it’s a local charity that does great work within the local community.
She added “As the skydive gets closer I’m getting really nervous, but I’m also really excited – and what better way to celebrate my 16th birthday!”
Anyone wanting to sponsor Kerry should call Alabaré on 08450 78 68 08.
