Drop In for a spot of lunch
9th May 2007
Alabaré Christian Care Centres is inviting local people to get a taste of what they’re doing to help the homeless in Salisbury.
The Salisbury Drop in Centre in The Friary will be opening its doors to the public for lunch on 24th May 2007.
The lunchtime event has been organised by the Mayor of Salisbury, Sheila Warrander, as part of her Appeal for the Salisbury Drop in Centre.
Sheila announced that the Salisbury Drop In Centre would be her chosen charity for the year, when she was installed as the 746th Mayor in June 2006. Since then she has held a number of charity events throughout her year of office as part of her appeal, including the sponsored Sleep Out at Salisbury Cathedral in January.
The money raised through the Mayor’s Appeal will go towards an improved and possibly permanent Drop In Centre in Salisbury.
Alabaré has Drop In Centres in Devizes, Salisbury and Trowbridge, which are aimed at vulnerable adults and young people who are homeless or face homelessness. They provide a warm and welcoming safe daytime shelter offering hot meals and drinks, showers, laundry facilities and a clothing exchange service. They also offer support and advice on housing and employment.
Sheila said “The services offered at the Salisbury Drop In are invaluable to the homeless and vulnerable people in the area. The money raised through the appeal will go towards enhancing and improving those services.”
She added “None of us know whether we may one day find ourselves in the position to need their help.”
Tickets for the Drop In Lunch cost £10 – call Alabaré on 08450 78 68 08.
The doors open at 12:45pm for a 1pm lunch.
