Planning Disappointment For Wales Homes For Veterans In Carmarthen

Planning disappointment for Wales Homes for Veterans in Carmarthen

Today we are disappointed to report that our Wales Homes for Veterans application for a change of use to a property in Lon Hir, Carmarthen has been rejected. Geoffrey Willis our Campaign Director said;

“We are disappointed with this afternoon’s decision of the Councillors of the Carmarthenshire County Council Planning Committee denying our application for a change of use to the property in Lon Hir. We will be looking at the reasons for the Councils decision today before deciding whether to take our application to appeal. Although we have not received the decision we were hoping for today, we will still intend to move forward with our plans to open a Veterans home in this area.”

Carmarthen has a proud history of supporting the Armed Forces Community, evidenced not least through the town’s Community Covenant. We see that a Wales Homes for Veterans can become an integral link in this special bond, and give those who have served in our Armed Forces and have fallen on hard times, a home and the support they need to get back on their feet again.

Alabaré has over 23 years experience in supported housing, each year helping over 3,000 people to have a home and the opportunity of a fulfilling life.  In 2009, working closely with other Forces charities, we developed a dedicated programme of accommodation and support for Armed Forces Veterans who were homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.  Since then we have successfully helped over 260 people to restart their lives again.

In December 2013, the MOD granted Alabaré nearly £1million in order to expand and enable Veterans in Wales to benefit from our homes in their communities.  Wales Homes for Veterans will make it possible for 72 Veterans at any one time to have a home in the heart of their local community.

Siom Cynllunio ar gyfer Cartrefi Cymru ar gyfer Cyn-filwyr

Cartrefi Cymru ar gyfer Cyn-filwyr , a redir gan yr elusen Alabaré , wedi mynegi eu siom heddiw , yn dilyn y cyhoeddiad bod eu cais am newid defnydd i eiddo yn Lon Hir, Caerfyrddin wedi cael ei gwrthod . Geoffrey Willis yw Cyfarwyddwr Ymgyrch dros yr elusen a ddywedodd ;

“Rydym yn siomedig gyda phenderfyniad Cynghorwyr Pwyllgor Cynllunio Sir Caerfyrddin y prynhawn yma i wrthod ein cais i newid defnydd yr eiddo yn Lôn Hir. Byddwn yn edrych ar resymau'r Cyngor am wneud y penderfyniad heddiw cyn penderfynu a ydym am apelio.”

Er nad ydym wedi cael y penderfyniad roeddem yn gobeithio amdano heddiw, rydym yn bwriadu bwrw ymlaen â'n cynlluniau i agor cartref i Gyn-filwyr yn yr ardal hon o hyd. Mae gan Gaerfyrddin hanes balch o gefnogi Cymuned y Lluoedd Arfog, fel y dangosir gan Gyfamod Cymunedol y dref. Credwn y gall Cartrefi i Gyn-filwyr Cymru ddod yn rhan annatod o'r berthynas arbennig hon, ac y gall roi cartref a chefnogaeth i'r rhai sydd wedi gwasanaethu yn ein Lluoedd Arfog ac sydd wedi wynebu caledi er mwyn iddynt ailsefydlu eu hunain.

Mae gan Alabaré dros 23 mlynedd o brofiad mewn tai â chymorth gan helpu dros 3,000 o bobl i gael cartref a chyfle i fyw bywyd bodlon bob blwyddyn.  Yn 2009, gan gydweithio'n agos ag elusennau eraill y Lluoedd Arfog, gwnaethom ddatblygu rhaglen ymroddedig o lety a chymorth i Gyn-filwyr y Lluoedd Arfog a oedd yn ddigartref neu mewn perygl o ddod yn ddigartref.  Ers hynny rydym wedi llwyddo i helpu dros 260 o bobl i ailddechrau eu bywydau eto.

Ym mis Rhagfyr 2013, rhoddodd y Weinyddiaeth Amddiffyn bron i £1 miliwn i Alabaré er mwyn i ni ddarparu mwy o gartrefi a galluogi mwy o Gyn-filwyr i gael budd o'n cartrefi yn eu cymunedau.  Bydd Cartrefi i Gyn-filwyr Cymru yn ei wneud yn bosibl i 72 o Gyn-filwyr ar unrhyw adeg gael cartref yng nghalon eu cymuned leol.
