Reverend John Proctor AwardedOBE

We are delighted to announce that Reverend John Proctor, the founder of our charity, has been awarded an OBE in the Queen's 90th Birthday Honours. John has been recognised for his extraordinary service, tireless work and dedication to the charity over the last 25 years.

All at Alabaré are very proud and honoured to be working at such a worthwhile and rewarding charity. John will be receiving his investiture later on this year at Buckingham Palace. Read the full story here.

The Royal Visit

In June we were delighted and honoured to welcome the Duke of Gloucester to our residential and ‘drop in’ youth service in The Andover Foyer. The day was a great success. You can read the full story here

Meet our Service Users

Here at Alabaré we are privileged to work with and help a huge variety of individuals from all different walks of life. People like Steve who was a member of the Royal Navy but found himself in need of a helping hand after leaving service.

Steve, 54, joined the Royal Navy as an engineer in August 1978 and left in June 2013. Steve went through the resettlement process and realised quite quickly that it would be difficult to get a job although he remained as positive as possible in the run up to him signing off. When the time came to leave the Navy, Steve found himself in rented accommodation whilst all the while actively looking for a job. Steve had been out of the Navy for over a year and still had not found a job despite applying for numerous positions. During this period Steve developed sleep problems due to the worry and stress of his situation. Quickly things started to spiral out of control, made worst with the worry he could soon be out on the street and homeless. Learn more about Steve and the impact Alabaré has made on his life. Armed Forces Day

This year Armed Forces Day fell on Saturday 25th June 2016. There were many activities to acknowledge the day across the country.  The events we attended were supported incredibly well.

We manned a stand in the Market Place in Salisbury where Mark and his tin bath made an appearance.

Our wonderful volunteers and fundraisers were in Wales to raise awareness of the charity. They had a great time and met some really wonderful people.

 Old Sarum Celebrations

Our Old Sarum and Barford Development Centres will be hosting a joint 25th Anniversary Celebration at our Old Sarum Garden Centre. This will take place on Saturday 30th July 2016. The event is open to all and runs from 10am to 3pm. There will be attractions on site ranging from craft stalls, bands and a BBQ. This is a great opportunity to buy hanging baskets and to stock up on unique gifts.

Fabulous Fundraisers

We don't just rely on members of the public taking on daring challenges to raise money for us, but large trusts and charities who are also key to our work in transforming lives.  Last week we celebrated  Seafares Awareness Week and we joined the nation in celebrating our service men and women in Armed Forces Day, we wanted to say a big thank you to two important charities who support our work, The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity and Seafarers UK.  Check out their posters below for more information on the work they do and how they support Veterans.

Seafarers UK

Last year Alabaré was 1 of over 80 charities and projects Seafarers UK grants programme helped. This funding supported more than 170,000 people across the board.  We would like to thank them for their continued support.

The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity

The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity exists to support sailors, marines and their families, for life.  Beneficiaries lie at the heart of The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity's purpose, it is their duty to remain focussed on their needs. Since 2007, they have funded projects and facilities that boost morale for those who serve today. They also distribute millions of pounds annually to military charities which care for the children, families and veterans of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines.

And Finally a Big Thanks.

A very warm thank you to all those who have so generously contributed to John’s 25th anniversary appeal for a regular donation, a gift in a will, or for church support to help secure Alabaré for the next 25 years.  A regular donation, through a standing order,  or a legacy (a gift in your Will) helps us plan for the future.

If you’d like to make a standing order you can find a form here and all the information you need to know about donating. Thank you for your continued support.
