Join The Cardiff Half
Our first Wales Home for Veterans is due to open in Pontypridd later this year. We are looking for runners to take part in this year’s Cardiff Half to raise money for the new Homes, and although we have some eager sprinters ready to go we still have spaces left for more keen runners.
There are less than 12 weeks to go until the starter pistol sounds on the 5th October, which coincidentally is just enough time to get in a full marathon’s training – so regardless of whether you’re a marathon veteran or an unsure beginner, if you’ve been considering joining the Cardiff Half, there’s still time – and we would really love it if you could run on behalf of their Homes for Veterans. Here’s some advice for all of our potential running mates;
• If you’re a beginner take it slowly. If you have never run before, you’ll need to increase your running distance gradually with regular training. Try to make a habit of running at least 3 or 4 times a week - even if all you can only manage a short run.
• If you’re already a regular on the running track keep a record of your personal best running times. Training the same way can become repetitive, so vary your training and see if that helps to reduce your running time.
• Don’t forget your diet too. Don’t start carb-loading straight away, but remember that you’ll be expending a lot more energy and will need more fuel. Remember to stay hydrated with lots of water too – fainting half way around the course will seriously affect your best time.
