Alabaré Alabaré - enabling a fulfilling life

Press Release

Alabaré supporting even more ex-offenders in Bristol

Alabaré is expanding its services to help even more ex-offenders in Bristol, with the addition of a new Move On home.

The regional homeless charity has announced that it has taken on the management of a new property, which is a joint venture between the charity of Alderman Steevens and will offer accommodation to three men who are making the transition from life in prison to life within the community.

Charis House will provide low-level supported accommodation for three men who are ready to move on from Alabaré’s Lazarus, Thomas and Shalom Houses (or similar projects) but aren’t quite ready for fully independent living.

Lazarus House is a Supported Housing project offering 24 hour support to single male ex-offenders who are making the transition from prison life to life in the community. It provides a safe and secure home and offers a planned programme of support and practical assistance tailored to the needs of each resident.  Support plans can include life skills, relapse prevention, and education and employment training.

Alongside Lazarus House there are also Thomas and Shalom Houses, which are Supported Housing projects offering a lower level of support.  They provide accommodation for clients who are ready to move on from Lazarus House (or a similar project) but still need a small amount of support.  Charis House will act as a further Move On stage with a lower level of support.

Alabaré’s Chief Executive, Andrew Lord said “I am delighted that we have opened Charis House enabling us to support even more ex offenders in Bristol.  These houses provide a vital service because having stable accommodation is a critical part of the successful reintegration of offenders back into the community.”
