New home found for Alabaré’s Kitted Out!
Alabaré’s second hand clothing project, Kitted Out!, is back in operation after finding a new premises in St Martin’s Church Hall, St Martin’s Church St in Salisbury.
Kitted Out!, which will be open on Fridays from 10am – 3pm, provides good quality second hand clothing and household items free of charge to vulnerable and homeless people living in the Salisbury area. Clients can browse rails and boxes of clothing and pick the items they want, which have been kindly donated to Alabaré.
People can only access the service if they have been referred by another agency, such as the Citizens Advice Bureau, using the correct referral procedure.
In 2010 the service issued more than 2,350 items to homeless and vulnerable people in the city and the team helped over 143 people – over 40 of these were children. Mel Greenstock, Alabaré Area Manager says:
“We are hugely grateful to St Martin’s Church for accommodating us – Kitted Out! has been homeless since March and it’s vital that we get up and running before the cold weather sets in again. We offer clothes, shoes, pots and pans and other useful household goods –simple items which some people can’t afford. We are always looking for donations, so if you have anything to give please get in touch.”
The service is run entirely by volunteers: if you are interested in getting involved please contact Jo King on 01722 333946.
