Audience Sing Along with leading Male Voice Choir and help the homeless
Bemerton Methodist Church hosted a marvellous concert on 5th July to raise funds for Alabaré Christian Care Centres Homeless Drop In Centre in Salisbury.
The concert, given by the Reading Male Voice Choir under the leadership of their Musical Director Gwyn Arch MBE, demonstrated their international wide-ranging repertoire by including Santa Maria (Schweitzer), Blowin’ in the Wind (Dylan), The Sound of Silence (Simon) and a thrilling African Trilogy with sections in Zulu arranged by Gwyn Arch. During their ‘Just Jolson’ medley of Al Jolson songs the audience’s enthusiasm for singing along threatened to raise the roof.
Soprano duo Anna & Joy Ruff from Chandlers Ford gave support for the choir and delighted the audience with two groups of songs including Annie’s Song (Denver), La Vie en Rose (Piaf/Louiguy), Losing My Mind (Sondheim). Their final item God Help the Outcasts (Menken) from Walt Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame was clearly chosen with Alabaré’s work in mind.
