Alabaré seek help to furnish new hostel

Local charity Alabaré Christian Care and Support is appealing for help today as they near the final stages of development of their new hostel for the homeless, Alabaré Place.

The brand new 30-bedroom hostel located in Barnard Street, Salisbury, will be opening its doors this Autumn, but is seeking donations to help with the final touches – providing homely furnishings, bedding and crockery to be used by those who could otherwise be sleeping on the streets.

Alabaré has been working in partnership with Greensquare to replace their old hostel, Damascus House, which was demolished in May 2010. The ethos of the new hostel is based on the 'Places of Change' programme, and will provide a high standard of accommodation with a range of purpose built training facilities in an environmentally friendly building.

Alabaré Place not only provides a roof for those who are sleeping rough, but also helps them to rebuild their health and skills and prepares them to move on successfully and live independently again.

Donations for the project, which could go towards items such as bedding, cutlery or wardrobes, can be made through the website www.alabare.co.uk or by phoning 01722 322929.

A donation from you could buy…
A place setting of crockery and cutlery for a homeless person - £15
A pack of bedding and bed linen - £50
A wardrobe and bed-side cabinet - £250

Stewart Mustard, Senior Manager at Alabaré, says:
“Alabaré Place reflects our passion for supporting vulnerable and marginalised people who otherwise have nowhere else to go. We have worked hard to ensure that the hostel will provide the best possible accommodation for residents, and aim to engage residents in meaningful activity within the local community; involve residents in the development of services; develop well trained and motivated staff; and provide a quality physical environment.”

Andrew Lord, Chief Executive:
“We are very excited that the hostel is nearly completed, but we desperately need people’s help to finish the development. Please consider donating to Alabaré to help finish this inspiring project, and help us to change people’s lives”
